Derrick Cooper

Derrick "DC" Cooper From the Mississippi Delta, DC has been in and around music all of his life.  Since the age of 5, DC has been singing and playing the piano and drums.  Because of his musical abilities, DC was able to perform with the Humphreys' County High School band while only being in the fifth grade.  By the time DC became a senior in high school, he was offered four musical scholarships and one physics scholarship....he choose one of the musical scholarships where he went on to become very successful in his academic journey.

After and during college, DC sang through out the Mississippi Delta performing at several beauty pageants, television fund raisers and weddings just because he loved to sang and also because the money was GOOD.  While attending and performing at a Delta State University beauty pageant, a visitor heard him and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for a new group in Jackson, MS....he said "sure".  After the group heard him, they instantly decided to make DC the male lead vocalist and that began him musical career in the Southern Soul Market....the name of the group was 24/7.   DC went on to spend 17 years performing and touring with the very well know southern cover band while writing and producing southern soul projects for such artist as; The X-Man, Tonya Youngblood, Terrell Moses, and working with such legendary producers as Fredrick Knight and William "The Fox" Brown of the legendary Staxx Records family.  The influence of working with the great producers and writers was a major part of the sound we hear today from this prominent songwriter and producer.
